Congress Leader Shana Mohamed Calls Rohit Sharma 'Fat' Tweet Goes Viral

Congress Spokesperson Shana Mohamed landed herself into a controversy after she fat shamed Indian Cricket team captain Rohit Sharma.

In a social media post on X, the Congress leader described the Indian captain as "fat" and a "mediocre captain".

“Rohit is a fat person, he needs to loose weight too & obviously he is one of the most unimpressive captains India has ever had", She wrote it on X (Formerly known as Twitter) the post is now deleted.

Later, Mohamed justified her statement and said that the tweet was not body-shaming and she has the right to give her opinion in a democracy.


"It was a generic tweet that I made about the fitness of a sportsperson, I didn't body shame him, I just believe that a person who is involved in sports should be fit , I have a right to give my opinion since it is a democracy I'm entitled to give my thoughts" she said.
"When did I compared to him with the previous captains? I just gave my opinion which I can give in a democracy, I've been attacked for no reason" she added.

Who is Shama Mohamed?

Shama hails from Kunnur in Kerala. She was appointed as spokesperson for the Congress in July 2015.
According to Shama's LinkedIn profile, she is also a dentist and has worked as a journalist before joining politics.

In December 2018, she was given the role of national media panellist for the party.

Congress reprimands Shama

Meanwhile Congress has reprimanded Shama over her remarks on the Indian captain & have asked her to delete the post with immediate effect.

“Dr. Shama national spokesperson of the Congress party made certain remarks one of the legends of the game, congress as a political doesn't support such kind of acts , we as a party honor the sports persons who represent or country, we've asked DR. Shama to take down her post & be keep a check on her words ” Khera said.

He also added that the party holds sporting icons in the highest regard and does not believe in making any statements that malign an image of a sportsperson.

Congress MP Rajani Patil said that the Congress will seek a response from Mohamed on the issue. I am personally looking into this matter, body who represents our country shaming a sports person is just not right thing, The party will seek her a response from her regarding this " Patil said.
