Star bowler Mohd. Shami failed to clear the fitness test because of the injury which he sustained during World Cup and as a result of which he will be not playing two-match Test series against South Africa starting December 26, said BCCI. Shami had hurt his ankle after the World Cup in which he was a leading wicket-taker (24 wickets).
"Mohd. Shami, whose participation in the Test series was subject to fitness has not been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team and the fast bowler is ruled out of the two Tests,” BCCI said in a release.
The BCCI did not specify a replacement for Shami. The board also informed that Shreyas Iyer will not be available for the second and third ODIs as he will join the Test squad to prepare for the red-ball format of the tour.
Pacer Deepak Chahar has pulled himself out from the ODI series against South Africa due to family's medical emergency. “Deepak Chahar has informed the BCCI that he will not be available for the upcoming ODI series due to a family medical emergency. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Mr Akash Deep as his replacement,” BCCI said.
"The Men's Selection Committee has named (pacer) Akash Deep as his replacement," the BCCI statement read.
