Hardik Pandya is getting viciously trolled after he was handed over the captaincy

Vishal Singh April 3, 2024

Ravi Shastri, a former head coach of the Indian cricket team, feels that Mumbai Indians supporters should stop booing captain Hardik Pandya during IPL 2024 matches and instead show him some patience. After a spectacular trade from Gujarat Titans, Hardik took over as MI captain in place of Rohit Sharma; nevertheless, the team has lost three straight games in the competition while he has been in charge.

Rohit Sharma pointed fans not to boo him

A portion of the audience has not reacted well to Hardik being jeered during the home game against the Rajasthan Royals. Shastri stated that even if Hardik is a new captain, the supporters must keep in mind that the all-around player is a "human being like them" in the end.

You have supported the team over the years. In just 2-3 matches, they won't be a bad team. They are 5-time champions, after all, they have a new captain. Just be patient, you know the bloke you're getting after is a human being like you. At the end of the day, he has to sleep in the night. So just think about it, be calm.

My thing to Hardik would be ‘calm, patient, ignore, and then just focus on your game'. You get a couple of performances going.. they are a terrific side, if they win 3 to 4 matches, everything will subside. You will, things will change.

Hardik - 'Man with a heart of steel'

Despite suffering a hat-trick of losses, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya declared on Tuesday that his team will not give up and will keep fighting in the present IPL.

"If there's one thing you should know about this team, we never give up. We'll keep fighting, we'll keep going," Hardik posted on X.

Since Hardik took over as MI captain in place of Rohit Sharma, the fan base has been furious with him. In the team's first two games, the all-rounder was jeered, and on Monday, MI played its first home game of the season, the level of crowd resentment peaked.

His captainship is being questioned

To make matters worse, MI's campaign took a terrible start under his leadership, and after three straight losses, they now sit at the bottom of the table.

MI, however, has a reputation for always starting slowly. They had to lose their opening four games in 2015 before winning the championship.

It has also been questioned if Hardik made the right captaincy decisions in not handing Bumrah the new ball or by sending Tim David ahead of himself against the Gujarat Titans.

The group of MI supporters are not pleased with the new captain. The Wankhede was filled with shouts of "Rohit Rohit" on Monday, and the Indian captain himself asked the fans not to make fun of Hardik.

The Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians will play at home on Sunday.
