The appointed Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has huge responsibility, but he is not worrying because there are still Dhoni and Jadeja to support him in the field. The enigmatic MS Dhoni handed on the CSK captaincy to Gaikwad on the day before their IPL opener against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Friday. After I came into the team in 2019 and settled for the team, captaining the side will be a new challenge for me. "It is a privilege. Besides, it is an onerous duty but I feel so excited because this bunch of experienced players doesn't give me more to do," said Gaikwad in a short video posted by CSK on social media.
Coming to Gaikwad, the opener has been very good in his last season and scored 590 runs in 16 games with a 147.50 run rate. 2021 was the year that he made his mark when he scored 635 runs in 16 matches.
Dhoni will be there to assist him in the decision making and the same will be done by Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane who batted at a very impressive strike rate of 172.49 in the season last year.
Also, Mahi Bhai, Jaddu Bhai, and Ajju Bhai (Rahane) who is a good captain will be there to support and guide me. I am not worried much, just looking forward to getting into this new role and enjoying it.
The 27-year-old is not very new to captaincy, because he led the Indian team to Asian Games gold last year. He has also been the frontman for his state side, Maharashtra.
