Kevin Pietersen has been roped in as a mentor by the Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2025. The former England skipper will join a new-look coaching staff that includes Hemang Badani (Head Coach), Venugopal Rao (Director of Cricket), Matthew Mott (Assistant Coach), and Munaf Patel (Bowling Coach). The franchise hasn't yet announced their captain for this edition.
I’m so excited to come home to Delhi! I have the fondest memories of my time with Delhi.
— Kevin Pietersen🦏 (@KP24) February 27, 2025
I love the city, I love the fans and I’ll do everything I can to support the franchise in our quest for the title in 2025! https://t.co/ln2ldwKHAz
During his playing days, Pietersen captained the Delhi franchise known as Delhi Daredevils during the 2014 season. He also led the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2009. The talismanic English player also represented the now-defunct Rising Pune Super Giants in 2016. This will be Pietersen's first coaching role since his retirement in 2016.
Pietersen enjoys a good relationship with the GMR group that owns the Capitals. Pietersen played a role in helping the GMR group to acquire Hampshire County in 2024.
They finished sixth in the previous edition, following which they let go of their skipper Rishabh Pant. They retained Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abhishek Porel.
Delhi Capitals have made just one final in the 17 seasons of the IPL. They will begin their quest for a maiden IPL title with a clash against their former skipper Rishabh Pant's new team, Lucknow Super Giants, on March 24
