Rishabh Pant is having one of his worst IPL seasons so far since making his debut in the league in 2016. Pant, who was bought by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the mega auctions for a record 27 crores, became the most costly player in the history of the IPL.
Pant has managed to score just 128 runs in 11 games so far at an average of 12.80 with just one half century against the Super Kings. This has turned out to be his worst IPL season since making his debut in 2016.
Pant, once again, had a forgettable outing in LSG's recent clash against Punjab Kings at Dharamshala, where he scored 18 runs off just 17 balls before being caught at deep cover region. The Lucknow Super Giants lost that match by 37 runs & are now placed at the 7th spot with 6 losses in 11 games & are in a must-win territory to make a claim for the playoffs.
Former Australian legend Wicket-Keeper & batter Adam Gilchrist has made some shocking revelations for the young Indian keeper-batter.
"Watching Rishabh Pant bat is a delight to watch; it looks like he enjoys his game. But, this time around, we haven't seen that smile, that laughter, his viral chirps behind the stumps he's not smiling", it could be due to the pressure of the captaincy, coming into a new franchise & with a big prize tag on his head might just've increased the pressure on him" Gilchrist Stated.
"I don't see his true personality what Rishabh Pant is, he is young a fun loving guy, a guy with a carefree batting approach whenever he takes the field, I'm just not able to see that spark in him, for me that's not the real Rishabh Pant that we know."
"I just don't see that spark in him this time around, I have been observing this thing for the last 10 to 11 matches, he's a young lovely vibrant kid, but this time around I haven't seen that with him, something is missing in Rishabh Pant this time around, that spark is missing in him" Gilchrist concluded.
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has advised Rishabh Pant to speak to his role model former Indian captain & keeper batter MS Dhoni for advice during his lean run both as player & captain.
"He does carry a mobile phone isn't it? all he needs to do is to pick up the phone & call someone, he should call his role model & big brother, MS Dhoni, if he is thinking negatively. Talking to MS Dhoni could lighten him up & help him to do well". Sehwag concluded
LSG play their next game at home against RCB on 9th May, the Lucknow franchise then travel to Ahmedabad to take on Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans on 14th May before rounding up the league phase of IPL 2025 against SRH at home on 18th May.
