Rishabh Pant has been officially appointed as the captain of Lucknow Super Giants for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Pant, who previously led the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, chose to enter the mega auction, the wicket-keeper batter became the most expensive player in history as he was snapped up by the Lucknow Supergiants for a whopping 27 Crores.
The Super Giants started the bidding for Pant who entered the auction at a base price of INR 2 Crore. Seeing off fierce bidding wars from Royal Challengers Bengaluru first and then Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Super Giants bid INR 20.75 Crore, which was matched by the Capitals who used the RTM. The LSG owner Mr. Sanjiv Goenka then raised the the bid to 27 Cr after the new rules that were formed before this auction that the original bidder can up the bid after the use of RTM. This eventually led to Pant being signed by the Lucknow franchise.

The Super Giants were in the hunt for an Indian skipper after letting go of KL Rahul during the retentions. Pant, who was their first buy in the auctions fits perfectly as a replacement for KL Rahul. Lucknow Supergiants who were looking for a new-look squad have made their squad dependent on an Indian pace bowling front.
Super Giants is the second IPL franchise that Pant will be leading after the Delhi Capitals from IPL 2021 to IPL 2024 Pant as a DC captain led Delhi Capitals to Qualifier 2 in IPL 2021, a 5th place finish in 2022 & 6th place finish in IPL 2024. Pant missed the entire season of IPL 2023 to recover from a life-threatening road accident.
The Super Giants, having retained Nicholas Pooran (21 Cr), Ravi Bishnoi (11 Cr), Mayank Yadav (11 Cr), Mohsin Khan (4 Cr) and Ayush Badoni (4 Cr), and have also made some big buys in Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, David Miller to beef up their batting, they have also strengthened their pace bowling attack with the inclusions of Avesh Khan (9.75 Cr) & Akash Deep (8cr)
Pant will now join forces with head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan to plan the next course of action for the Lucknow Supergiants in this new cycle of Indian Premier League (IPL).
