While the senior players of the West Indies team have taken their names out from the upcoming series, the West Indies cricket board finds it difficult to complete the squad in their upcoming series against the world champions - Australia.
The test series will start from 25th January 2024. Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers have opted out of the test series and will not be playing the upcoming series and Jayden Seales is also unavailable due to a shoulder injury. As a result, the West Indies's selectors have included 7 uncapped players. These players include Batter Zachary McCaskie, wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach, allrounders Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Kevin Sinclair, and quick bowlers Akeem Jordan and Shamar Joseph. Most of these players showed promising results when they featured in the West Indies A tour of South Africa, including three four-day matches.
Kraigg Brathwaite (capt), Alzarri Joseph, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Kirk McKenzie, Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge, Justin Greaves, Joshua Da Silva, Akeem Jordan, Gudakesh Motie, Kemar Roach, Kevin Sinclair, Tevin Imlach, Shamar Joseph, Zachary McCaskie
The legendary team West Indies, who had once dominated the world cricket is now struggling to collect players. The board needs to take some steps regarding that as in 2023 the team was not able to qualify for the World Cup 2023. Although being West Indies, the team and board are expected to make a comeback.
