15-Year-Old Indian Weightlifter Preetismita Bhoi Claims Gold at World Youth Championships

Preetismita Bhoi, an Indian weightlifter, is 15 years old and broke the world record while winning gold in the World Youth Championships.

In the women's 40 kg division, Indian weightlifter Preetismita Bhoi broke the world record for youth clean and jerk, winning a gold medal at the IWF World Youth Championships in Lima, Peru.

Here on Wednesday, the 15-year-old beat the previous record of 75 kg by 1 kg.

On the first day of competition, she finished within 2 kg of the juvenile world standard overall after lifting 57 kg in the snatch for a total effort of 133 kg.

With a combined effort of 125 kg (56 kg + 69 kg), Jyoshna Sabar secured the silver medal for India, making it a 1-2 finish. Turkey's Fatma Kolcak placed third with a total lift of 120 kg (55 kg plus 65 kg).

Payal won a silver medal in the women's 45kg event by lifting a total of 147 kg (65 kg + 147 kg).

She came in second place, trailing only Colombian Lawren Estrada 151kg (67kg+84kg), who won her second world championship.

The fourth lifter from India to reach the podium was Babulal Hembrom. In the men's 49 kg competition, he lifted 193 kg (86 kg plus 107 kg) to win bronze
