On Sunday, February 18, the legendary Indian and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni was selected to lead the all-time greatest Indian Premier League team. Interestingly, the team was formed to give tribute to the world's most grand league i.e. IPL which was onboarded in 2008. The IPL will be completing 16 years on February 20, 2024, the date on which the first-ever auction of the T20 was held.

At the first IPL auction, Dhoni was the most expensive player, going to CSK for a whooping USD 1.5 million. Since then, the cricket player from Ranchi has written a magnificent chapter in the history of the competition by leading CSK to a record-tying five titles during his captaincy and leaving an ever-lasting legacy for the following generations.

Former cricket players Wasim Akram, Matthew Hayden, Tom Moody, and Dale Steyn were on the selection panel for the all-time greatest IPL team. The selection process also involved about seventy journalists.

When discussing Dhoni's greatness, former Australian cricketer Tom Moody noted that the fact that he has won the IPL with both mediocre and excellent squads says volumes about his leadership abilities.

It has to be MS Dhoni for me, the reason being MS Dhoni has won the title with very good squads and average squads, and that tells me a lot about the captain and how he can lead a variety of talents in a squad to success. Rohit Sharma has been a brilliant captain for MI but MI has always had the best squads or up there with the best squads in the IPL since its inception

Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Suresh Raina also make the cut -

Star Indian batsman Virat Kohli was also selected to open the innings alongside Chris Gayle, in addition to Dhoni. Legends like AB de Villiers and Suresh Raina dominated the middle order, and two all-rounders were Ravindra Jadeja and Shane Watson.

Yuzevndra Chahal, the IPL's top wicket-taker, and Ravichandran Ashwin made up the spin department, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were chosen as the two seamers. Head coach Stephen Fleming selected David Warner, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Sunil Narine as impact replacements.

All-time best IPL squad:

MS Dhoni (C), Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, David Warner, Suresh Raina, AB de Villiers, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Kieron Pollard, Rashid Khan, Sunil Narine, Yuzvendra Chahal, Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah.
