Kerr is the first Kiwi to be named the ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year in any category, in addition to being the first New Zealander to win the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

Her ability to play long innings to take advantage of good starts or to anchor the innings when the top order fell made her a vital member of New Zealand's batting lineup.

The Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy was first given out in 2017 and has only been given to three players before Kerr: Ellyse Perry of Australia, Smriti Mandhana of India, and Nat Sciver-Brunt of England. All three have received the trophy twice.
