Argentina Edge Past Ecuador 1-0 in Copa America Warm-up

In a pre-Copa America friendly on Sunday in Chicago, Argentina defeated Ecuador 1-0 thanks to a goal by Angel Di Maria.

Five minutes before halftime, Di Maria gave Argentina the lead with a through pass from Cristian Romero. Di Maria will announce his retirement from international competition following the Copa America. They couldn't, however, build on their lead in the second half.

"Winning was well-earned. After the game, Di Maria remarked, "We have to stay united and keep working as we always do."
Ecuador is a potential opponent in the Copa. We are aware that this will be a very challenging competition. It was a wonderful game today to demonstrate our abilities.

On Friday, Argentina plays a friendly match against Guatemala. On June 20, the reigning champions begin their Copa America campaign against Canada. Then, on June 29, they face Peru, and Chile five days after that.
As part of their Copa America preparations, Ecuador takes play Bolivia on Wednesday and Honduras on Sunday. They take against Venezuela on June 22 to start their quadrennial campaign. Four days later, they play Jamaica, and on June 30 they play Mexico.
