Australia has become the new number-one ranked ICC Test team, dethroning India from its long-held top position in the ICC Test team rankings. This was due to Australia's impressive effort to take an unassailable 2-0 lead over Pakistan at home in the ongoing three-match series. As of January 4, 2024, Australia leads the charts with 118 rating points, surpassing Indian team.
“Australia’s impressive run at home against Pakistan helped it take the crown of the No. 1 Test team once again, having last held the spot briefly following its WTC Final victory,”

Australia's flawless record against Pakistan coupled with India's recent draw in a two-test series match against South Africa, raised the bar for team Australia. The Australian team's comeback is not limited to the Test arena. They also won the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, making it an incredibly successful year for the team.
As the cricket calendar unfolds, the battle for supremacy promises to continue with the ongoing third Test between Australia and Pakistan and the much-awaited five-match series between India and England.
India will begin their series against Ben Stokes and his team on January 25, with important points in the ICC World Test Championship also on the line for both teams.
