Mumbai Indians Captain Pandya Fined, Banned for One Match After Slow Over Rate Offense

Neha . May 18, 2024

Due to the Mumbai Indians' sluggish over rate against the Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede Stadium, skipper Hardik Pandya has been suspended for one game. Since MI has already completed their IPL 2024 season, Hardik Pandya will not be available for the team's opening game of the following year.

"The remaining members of the playing XI, which included the Impact Player, were all fined separately, with the lesser amount being either Rs. 12 lakh or 50% of their individual match fees."

After taking a 45-minute pause due to rain, the Lucknow Super Giants returned and defeated the Mumbai Indians by 18 runs, despite half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir. Nicholas Pooran smashed a remarkable 28 balls for 75 runs, helping the team to a formidable total.

The Wankhede crowd heckled Hardik, the pre-season acquisition who had replaced Rohit Sharma as captain, all during the competition. In the field, he amassed 216 runs at a strike rate of 143.04 and an average of 18.00. At an economy rate of 10.75, he claimed 11 wickets with the ball.

Highlights:

  • Mumbai Indians 196/6 in 20 overs (Rohit Sharma 68, Naman Dhir 62 not out;
  • Ravi Bishnoi 2-37, Naveen-ul-Haq 2-50) were defeated by Lucknow Super Giants 214/6 in 20 overs
  • Nicholas Pooran 75, K.L. Rahul 55; Nuwan Thushara 3-28, Piyush Chawla 3-29 by an 18-run margin.
