The Netherlands suffered a blow as Frenkie De Jong is ruled out of Euro 2024 due to injury.

In a major blow to the Netherlands, their best midfielder Frenkie De Jong is now ruled out of the upcoming Euro 2024 due to an ankle injury.

Netherlands defender Nathan Ake said that it was a bitter pill to swallow that Frenkie Won't be around when the Euro begins.

Everyone straightaway went towards him post-game it's hard for him, it'll be hard for us too. Ake said after the Dutch won a warmup game at Rotterdam with a scoreline of 4-0.

De Jong was anyway a doubtful starter even before Koeman's squad could come up for a meeting

Frenkie last played was in a Spanish Liga game against Real Madrid in April where he ended up on the losing side.

The Orange Army start their European campaign on June 16th against the Poland side before taking on the favorites Austria and France in Group D.

"Frenkie is an important player for the team, he is a vital cog, he plays a big role in our chances," Manchester City defender Ake said.

Koeman might also miss on the services of the second midfielder Tom Koop Meiners who also suffered an injury in the warm-up practice before the Iceland win.

"It doesn't look great, it's not a great sign for our team, We'll get the medical tests done and see how's he doing".

In the Iceland win, Xavi Simons, with his first international goal, Virgil van Dijk, Donyell Malen, and Wout Weghorst scored, following up Thursday’s 4-0 victory over Canada.
