Glenn Maxwell made an incredible decision of getting a substitute for his foreign player slot in the RCB XI since he could not score well in IPL 2024, said the Australian all-rounder in a frank statement. What Maxwell did was he approached the RCB captain, Faf du Plessis, and the rest of the coaching staff to have the easier option which is dropping himself from team selection that way the captain could freshen up physically both mentally and memories.
First off I need to say it was one of the simplest choices that I have ever had to make," Maxwell said after RCB's sixth loss piled with emotion. "I went to talk to players and the coach after the last game and I let them know that I felt that they need to sort out something and try to have some new people, I told them. There was a situation in which I was sure I could manage it and would surely get out of this hole so I kept playing. To be honest, first of all, I think now that this break in both mind and body is maybe just what I need, to give myself a break and allow my body to improve. As much as possible, if I have to come in as a substitute during the tournament, I can endeavor to be entrenched in an appropriate mental and physical state of health in which I still have a reasonable impact.
However, Maxwell, who was in a century mood at the start of the IPL, went straight back to the dugouts without scoring any runs against CSK. He said, for him this edition does not much much feet "The T20 game is so often "fickle" as he calls it - it's a very quick game indeed," he said. "Here, I had a lovely drive down the middle, that the throw was made to the keeper. I deduced the length to perfection, and saw a goal situation, but opened the face a little too much.
It's probably simply that I haven't managed to escape. I think I made very excellent selections in the first three games, but I was still finding ways to get out. In Twenty20 cricket, it may occur, and when it does, you could seek far and wide, put in too much effort, and lose sight of the fundamentals of the sport."
Maxwell's dismal performance in the Indian Premier League was previously criticized by Indian cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar, who claimed that the Australian was just not a fast bowler.
