India captain and pace ace Jasprit Bumrah had to leave the field early in the post-lunch session on Day 2 of the Sydney Test with a back injury concern. Bumrah was filmed leaving the stadium premises to undergo scans and returned to the dressing room later in the final session. In a press conference at the end of the day's play, Prasidh Krishna said Bumrah had a back spasm.

Bumrah will take a call on his bowling on the third day, while he'll be available to bat in India's final batting innings of the series with the score currently reading 141-6 in 32 overs with a lead of 145.

Bumrah bowled eight overs on the second day's play at the SCG claiming the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne. Bumrah bowled just one over in the second session and went off the field and didn't took any further part in the day.

At the time of him leaving the field, he had bowled 151.2 overs across five Tests with only his Australia counterpart Pat Cummins having bowled more (152 overs). Bumrah's hard grinds have fetched him a chart-leading 32 wickets at 13.06 in the series but his workloads, necessitated by both team combination and lack of potency in the other bowlers have ensured that Bumrah had to make the hard yards in this series

At the end of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, Rohit Sharma had admitted there was a risk of Bumrah being overbowled.

Rohit On Bumrah

"if a player is in such a great form you want to utilize him to the fullest of his capabilities and that's what we've been trying to with Bumrah"
"But there is also that time when you just have to switch yourself off, give that little bit time to your body to recover & cool off, something we as a team are working on it, me as the captain of the team is working on it, I always ask him about how he's feeling & things like that, so yes these are some things which need to be looked upon and managed carefully which I'm trying to do while I'm on the field." There was another instance of Bumrah having an injury scare in the 2nd test at Adelaide which was the pink ball test. During his 20th over Bumrah was hobbling a bit and was seen holding his groin area. He was able to carry on at full tilt post that scare, this also saw Bumrah matching Harbhajan Singh's tally of most wickets in a single test series against Australia.
