The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah, has disclosed that the organization plans to publish a job advertising to find a new head coach.
Rahul Dravid's stint as head coach ends in June, and Shah revealed this information during a media conference at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. He also added that "if he wants to apply, he is free to do so."
"Rahul is only here till June. Therefore, he is free to apply if he so chooses," Cricbuzz cited the BCCI secretary as stating.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will make the decision, the BCCI secretary said, without revealing if the new coach will be an Indian or a foreign national.
"We don't know if the new coach will be foreign or Indian. We are a worldwide body, thus the CAC will have the last say.
The CAC will also make that determination. There are several all-format players, like Rishabh Pant, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. Furthermore, such a circumstance has never happened before in India," Shah stated.
Shah also stated that the coach will be on the job for a duration longer than two years and that the appointment will be long-term. Shah also discussed the Impact Player rule, which was introduced into the Indian Premier League (IPL) to thrill the crowd and is frequently in the news. Notably, Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, has also expressed his disapproval of the regulation.
In the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Sharma stated, "I genuinely feel the impact player rule is going to hold back the development of all-rounders because cricket is ultimately played by 11 players, not 12."
"A test case was Impact Player. In the IPL, two fresh Indian players will have their shot. Before determining whether to keep the Impact Player running, we will consult with the broadcasters and franchises. Although it's temporary, no one has voiced objections to the regulation," he added.
