Unmukt Chand, the captain of India's Under-19 World Cup-winning team, has suffered a severe blow to his chances of playing for the United States of America (USA) in the T20 World Cup after being left out of the team for the T20I series against Canada, which begins on April 7. Chand qualified to play for the USA earlier this year and departed from Indian cricket in 2021. Unmukt, though, was left out of the USA's 15-man squad for the five-game series against their Canadian neighbors.

Unmukt had voiced his opinion about playing against a team like India earlier in the year. He expressed his desire to put himself to the test against his birth nation.

Something which would be very strange (laughs), but I think since I've retired from India, my next goal was always to sort of play against India, and not in any bad blood but keen to test myself out against the best team in the world.
~Chand told Cricbuzz

Returning to the USA team, Chand was not included despite amassing 1500 runs in 45 matches in Major League Cricket (MLC). He is currently the second-highest run scorer in the history of the competition. Ahead of the match, which begins on April 7 in Houston, Texas, Monank Patel will captain the United States against Canada.

After a gap of six years, the former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson is also expected to make his international cricket debut. From 2012 to 2018, the 33-year-old represented New Zealand in 13 Tests, 49 ODIs, and 31 T20Is. He also formerly held the record for the fastest hundred in ODIs.

Corey Anderson, Harmeet Singh, and Milind Kumar were called up to the Canada T20Is, but Chand was not. In the IPL, Milind Kumar and Harmeet Singh played for Rajasthan and Bangalore.

Unmukt Chand Reacted on this decision -

Following his exclusion from the USA's 15-man team for their forthcoming Twenty20 International Series against Canada, Unmukt Chand did not appear to be a pleased guy. The 31-year-old demanded a "change" in the USA team administration and blasted the "unfair systems."

Following his retirement from Indian cricket, Chand has continued to play T20 cricket in various competitions across the world, such as the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia, Major League Cricket (MLC), and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
