The IPL 2024 season is sixteen matches started, and already 299 sixes have been hit at an incredible pace of one per 12.59 balls. In light of this, the tournament may almost see 1350 sixes if the season sees at least 17000 deliveries, as in the past two seasons. A few bowlers have pulled off some absurd feats, but batsmen have continued to smash records and pile up sixes during the last week.

Dhoni’s relevance visible in record-breaking feats:

During Chennai Super Kings' match against Delhi Capitals, MS Dhoni became the first wicketkeeper to register 300 T20 dismissals. Since making his debut in the format in 2006, Dhoni has pouched 213 catches and caused 87 stumpings. In addition, Dhoni became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score 7000 T20 runs, ranking third overall behind Quinton de Kock and Jos Buttler. The 42-year-old destroyed Anrich Nortje for 20 runs in the last over, including two sixes, during his rapid-fire knock. As a result, Dhoni became the first player to smash 100 sixes in an innings in the 19th and 20th over. Kieron Pollard, the next best, is ranked 57th.

Dhoni’s upcoming milestone:

5000 – MS Dhoni needs 6 more runs to bring CSK's total in T20 matches (IPL + Champions League T20) to 5000. With 5529 runs from 200 matches, the only player who is ahead of him is Suresh Raina, who has retired from Indian cricket.
