A hamstring injury may prevent the Mumbai Indians (MI) top pacer Dilshan Madushanka from playing in the first few matches of IPL 2024, which is a setback. Madushanka, who bowled brilliantly in the last World Cup, was a major acquisition for MI during the auction, bringing in a healthy bid of ₹4.6 crore.

Dilshan Madushanka suffers a left hamstring injury

The injury happened during Bangladesh's second One-Day International match against Sri Lanka. Madushanka suffered a left hamstring strain, which was confirmed by an MRI scan after he was forced to leave the pitch while bowling.

The fact that Madushanka is fast and master at collecting wickets is a major blow for MI, who were depending on him to strengthen their bowling lineup. With 21 wickets in nine matches, the Sri Lankan bowler finished third in the 2023 ODI World Cup in terms of wicket-taking. Additionally, he got a fifer against India at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

According to an official statement by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Madushanka will miss the remaining ODI against Bangladesh and will return home to begin his rehabilitation program. Matheesha Pathirana will replace him in the Bangladesh series.

MI will begin their IPL 2024 campaign on March 23

The injury to Madushanka disrupts MI's plans, particularly in light of their inaugural game against Gujarat Titans (GT), which is set for March 23 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.

Moving forward, MI will need to find a worthy substitute for Madushanka as they prepare for the IPL season. Spectators will be eagerly observing to see who steps up to replace the injured pacer.
