Dinesh Karthik, the wicketkeeper-batsman for India, will play his final IPL match in the 2024 season, which starts on March 22. After this T20 league, he will decide to retire from international cricket. With only two missing games in 16 seasons as a player, the 38-year-old has participated in every IPL tournament since 2008 and is currently signed with the Royal Challengers Bangalore. "This IPL 2024 season will be Dinesh Karthik's final one. After the IPL, he will decide to retire from international cricket, a BCCI source with anonymity told PTI.

Diverse IPL Career -

Karthik is one of the IPL's most experienced wicket-keeper hitters, having played for six different clubs.

He began his career in 2008 with the Delhi Daredevils (now the Capitals) and transferred to Kings XI Punjab in 2011. After playing for the Mumbai Indians for the next two seasons, he returned to Delhi in 2014, this time for a staggering Rs 12.5 crore.

He was signed by Royal Challengers in 2015 for a sum of Rs 10.5 crore. He later played for Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017, and finally, before he spent four seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders.

In 2018, he guided Kolkata to the IPL playoffs, and in 2019, the team finished sixth in the points standings.

Karthik was released by KKR ahead of the 2022 IPL, and RCB acquired him for a second time for Rs 5.5 crore. He was primarily a finisher for RCB, also he had an incredible 2022.

Karthik was a major factor in the RCB's progress to the playoffs that season, scoring 330 runs at an average of 55 and a scorching strike rate of 183.33 in 16 games.

Karthik was selected for the Indian team for the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup in Australia because of his run, but he did not perform up to par as Virat Kohli's team lost to eventual winners England in the semifinals, eliminating them from the championship.

By then, though, Karthik's style had also established him as a commentator.

The Tamil Nadu player had a respectable run at playing for the Indian team as well, given that he competed against MS Dhoni for the wicketkeeper-batsman position.

After making his Test debut against Australia in 2004, he has participated in 26 matches, amassing 1025 runs, making 57 catches, and stumping six opponents. The year 2018 saw him play his final Test match. Between 2004 and 2019, he played in 94 ODI matches, scoring 1752 runs while managing 64 catches and 7 stumpings.

Karthik made his debut in the shortest format in 2006, and his final game for India was a T20I against Bangladesh in 2022. From 60 T20Is, he amassed 686 runs while grabbing 30 catches and stumping 8 opponents.

Average IPL career -

Since the first IPL season, Karthik has participated in 242 games and amassed 4516 runs at a 25.81 average, 132.71 strike rate, and 20 half-centuries. 36 stumpings and 141 catches have been impacted by him. He also recently played in Navi Mumbai's DY Patil T20 Cup.
