Simon Doull was undoubtedly not among those who cheered MS Dhoni's spectacular innings of undefeated 37 balls off 16 balls, despite the fact that the whole World did. The former New Zealand bowler criticized the Chennai Super Kings icon for making "poor calls," saying that he didn't run singles, wasted balls, and most significantly, turned down a strike from Ravindra Jadeja.
Four nights ago in Visakhapatnam, during CSK's match against Delhi Capitals, Dhoni batted for the first time in this IPL. When he took the field, CSK needed to score 72 runs in 24 balls. Not in any way simple, but yet not insurmountable. Dhoni's innings gave promise as he hit two boundaries in the first three balls, but the same pattern emerged once more. Even though he gave it his all, Dhoni was forced to play out a couple of dot balls when every run was crucial for CSK since he was pressed for length.
‘I was watching and I was thinking, you know am I allowed to say this… well yeah we have to at some stage you have too. It didn't look good to me watching on the television. I have enormous amount of respect for the man but that just didn't quite look right to me, when he was hitting the ball and not taking the runs. Yes, they might need sixes, their might be boundaries only required but there were a lot of 'oohs and aahs' made about it. He is back, Dhoni is back, they lost the game.’
~Said Doull.
‘It's not like you have got a bunny on the other hand’, Doull said. They had Jadeja at the other end he said. He highlighted about the final last year, where six and four were needed of the last two balls to win the title. He told Jadeja was not any other batter who could not have clinched the win.
