Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title in the previous season, defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) in a thrilling final. The team, led by the iconic MS Dhoni, performed admirably throughout the tournament.
Notably, Dhoni has been at the leadership since the beginning, and, probably, the veteran stumper may not lead the team shortly. The Super Kings will look for a qualified option to lead the team, as Dhoni, who has led CSK since its formation, leaves the gap that needs to be filled.
Ambati Rayudu, the former batsman of CSK and MI, came out in full support of Rohit Sharma and schooled Mumbai Indians on making a rush in choosing the captain for Mumbai Indians. Hardik Pandya returned to MI after captaining GT for 2 years in which he finished one game as a winner and a runner-up in its second season.
He further said -
This year, Rohit should have continued captaining, and Hardik, maybe after a year, could have been given that responsibility. Rohit is still captaining India in T2OIs. I feel that MI rushed into this decision but probably they know best. So, it will be difficult. Gujarat Titans had a different set-up. Captaining MI is not easy because there are so many star players in the team. There is too much pressure and not everyone can handle it.
~Rayudu said in an interview with News24
Then Rayudu dropped a bomb, declaring that he hopes Rohit would decide to join the Chennai Super Kings, as has been widely reported. After winning the title five times, the former India batter believes that Rohit can still play for another five to six years. He believes that the possibility of starting a new chapter with the "Yellow Army" is as thrilling as it gets.
When a journalist asked about Rohit as a captain for CSK, he said -
Rohit can play for another 5-6 years. I want to see Rohit in CSK going forward. If he has to captain, he can do it anywhere in the world. But it's up to him. He has played so many years for MI and won them titles. So if he goes there, why not?
