Glenn Maxwell's IPL 2025 campaign has ended following a finger injury in his index finger. The Punjab skipper, Shreyas Iyer, confirmed the injury during the toss against the Chennai Super Kings on April 30. The PBKS skipper also said they've not yet considered the replacement. The Punjab Kings franchise gave an update on Maxwell's injury on Thursday (1st May).
"It's unfortunate for Maxi, who has injured his finger," Shreyas stated at the toss. "To be honest, we haven't thought about calling a replacement yet, we know what we have got outside our playing 11, we know the players who can replace him, so we're going to stick with that". Shreyas Concluded

Maxwell's Australian team-mate Marcus Stoinis also confirmed that Maxwell suffered the injury before the ran-hit KKR clash where Maxwell batted too & scored just 7 runs. In the following game against CSK, they replaced him with Suryansh Shedge in the playing 11, hence going with just 3 overseas.
"Unfortunately, he has broken his finger; he broke it in the training sessions. At first instance Maxi thought that it wasn't that bad, but later, when the scans came, it ended up being pretty bad. His IPL 2025 might've come to an end," Stoinis told Jiostar.
Maxwell did not enjoy a happy return to the franchise, where he made headlines 11 seasons ago with a swashbuckling campaign of 552 runs at a strike rate of 187.75. He experienced similar highs for RCB in the 2021 (513 runs) and 2023 (400 runs) seasons. Maxwell scored just 48 runs in 7 outings this season for the Punjab Kings at a low average of 6.
The Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings are now on the 2nd spot with 6 wins in their kitty as they went onto beat the Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk by 6 wickets to knock them out of the tournament.
Speaking after the match, head coach Ricky Ponting said that the franchise is on the lookout for a replacement, finding which has proven a bit tricky because of the season coinciding with the Pakistan Super League. Ponting hinted that it could be an Indian player who is eventually signed up, despite PBKS having only six overseas players available in their squad at the moment.
The Punjab Kings head to their 'new' home in Dharamsala to play their Northern Counterparts, Lucknow Super Giants, on May 4 & later the Delhi Capitals on May 8.
