Sold Tractor, Now What? Pak Fan's T20 Ticket Dream Turns into Nightmare

Neha . June 10, 2024

While Indian fans were overjoyed with Pakistan's eighth defeat to India in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup, supporters of the Men in Green were devastated, especially one fan who had sold his tractor to see his idols play. With two more group stage matches remaining, India's hopes of qualifying for the World Cup remain alive thanks to a close victory at a crowded Nassau County Stadium thanks to Jasprit Bumrah's economical three-wicket haul that put pressure on Pakistan's batsmen and Rishabh Pant's counterattacking, game-saving performance.

After the game, there was a "sea of blue" yelling "India India" and doing energizing dance moves on dhols. These sights outside Nassau County Stadium were breathtaking.

A devastated Pakistani fan was one of them; he had sold his tractor to get a $3,000 ticket, but he was unable to see his side win the match.

The fan claimed to ANI,

"I sold my tractor to get a ticket worth $3,000." We didn’t believe we were going to lose this game until we saw India’s score. We believed the score to be reachable. We had the game in the bag, but fans were discouraged when Babar Azam was freed. (Indian supporters) I congratulate you everybody.

Highlights of IND vs PAK Match:

  • Prior to the game, Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first against India.
  • However, star openers Rohit Sharma (13) and Virat Kohli (4) failed to score much
  • Rishabh Pant (42 in 31 balls, with six fours) looked to be playing on a different pitch and produced solid partnerships with Axar Patel (20 in 18 balls, with two fours and a six) and
  • Suryakumar Yadav (seven in eight balls, with a four).
  • India could only manage 119 in 19 overs as the lower middle order collapsed under the burden of needing to score runs on such a difficult wicket.
  • Pakistan used a more methodical approach throughout the run-chase, and Mohammed Rizwan (31 in 44 balls, with a four and a six) kept one end steady.
  • Bumrah (3/14) and Hardik Pandya (2/24) claimed important wickets of skipper Babar Azam (13), Fakhar Zaman (13), Shadab Khan (4), and Iftikhar Ahmed (5).
  • Naseem Shah (10*) attempted to win it for Pakistan with 18 runs needed in the last over, but Arshdeep Singh (1/31) ensured Pakistan lost by six runs.
