Post that, the venue will start hosting Cricket matches. However, the venue will get to host the Gold Medal clash in the Olympics if its retained for the 2032 edition.
"The Gabba has been one of the greatest cricket venues for us, giving countless memories to the fans & the players, but the challenges that the venue faces are very well documented. We need to look at the future," Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said in a statement.
"There is a big opportunity for Queensland to attract fans from all over & host big cricketing events such as the ICC events, the BGT involving Australia & India, The ashes & of course the BBL & WBBL at a purposely built stadium ."
