As the Rajasthan Royals completed a comfortable win over the Mumbai Indians, and the commentators were praising the inaugural IPL champions for their impressive start, Gerald Coetzee quietly broke the season's record for the fastest delivery by shooting a 157.4 kph thunderbolt to Riyan Parag.

The speed gun clocked Coetzee's third delivery of the 16th over, off which Parag hit the winning boundary in the chase of 126, at 157.4 kph, surpassing the previous record set by Mayank Yadav of Lucknow Super Giants, who had made a fast and furious IPL debut against Punjab Kings, picking up three wickets and a player-of-the-match award.

Mayank was recorded at 150 kph three times, with 155.8 kph being the fastest of them all, setting the record for the quickest delivery in IPL 2024. However, a day later, Michigan's Coetzee surpassed him at the top of this ranking.

Overall, this is the second-fastest delivery in IPL history, trailing only Shaun Tait's 157.71 kph delivery in 2011.

Coetzee has replaced New Zealand's Lockie Ferguson, who is now third quickest with a delivery speed of 157.3 kph. India's Umran Malik (157 kph during the IPL 2022) is ranked fourth and the fastest Indian on this list.
