Star English batter Harry Brook is all set to lead the England white-ball team, the England & Wales Cricket Board announced in a release on Monday (April 7). The 26-year-old lad succeeds Jos Buttler, who resigned from the post after the end of the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

Harry Brook To Lead England In White-Ball Cricket

It's an absolute honor to represent my country, its a dream come true for a young kid who started his cricketing journey in Burley, I dreamt of playing for Yorkshire, playing for England & perhaps even lead the side one day & to getting that opportunity of leading your side is a big honor for me" Brook said in a statement.
"I'd like to thank my family, my coaches who've helped me throughout this beautiful journey in my cricket career. There is a lot of talent available in this country, I'm all pumped to get going, tick the boxes, winning series, winning world cups." Brook said in a statement

Brook, who was the vice-captain of the England side last year, has some captaincy experience under his belt as he led the England team in the ODI series against Australia in 2024. Initially, there was a toss-up between Ben Stokes & Harry Brook, but the ECB went with the former option.

ECB Director Rob Key On Brook

"I'm happy that Brook has accepted the offer to lead the England Lions in white-ball cricket. Brook has been a part of our plans in succession plans, albeit things have panned out much earlier. "Harry has been an outstanding player for us & has a great cricketing brain, he has a great vision that will help us move forward in a bid to win more series & world cups".

England needs a rejig after a string of poor performances in the white-ball formats, including at the last three ICC events. Amid the dwindling fortunes, the ECB got McCullum to coach the white-ball sides starting 2025 in addition to his Test match responsibilities. But his partnership with Buttler didn't result in good things as England lost 10 of their last 11 white-ball games last year.

Brook, who made his white-ball debut in January 2022, is considered among the best young batters in the world. Brook has great test numbers, while he has donned the England jersey 26 times in T20I cricket, scoring 816 runs at an average of 34.00.
