The home season of the Indian Cricket Team starts on September 19th against Bangladesh, a test match in Chennai. The mindset of the fans would be excitement, laying down the strategies to plan their day, while some might've made plans to watch & support their team from the venue in the scorching heat of Chennai.
The plans are set & possibly for the last hurrah of some of the game legends for Team India. Team India is scheduled to play 5 test matches at home (2 vs Bangladesh) & ( 3 vs New Zealand) before they fly to Australia for the all-important Border Gavaskar Trophy in November.
Coming to 2025, The Men In Blue don't have a home test until October next year, with Team India traveling next to the UK for a 6-match test tour ( WTC - if they qualify & 5 Test matches vs England). With the new WTC cycle of 2025-27 beginning with the England tour, there might be chances that we might not witness some gems of Indian Cricket who have served the team for a long period.
In this article, we will talk about 4 such players who might be playing their last home test series
Current Indian captain Rohit Sharma features first in our list of Indian Players Who could play their last home Series. Rohit Sharma 37, is at the back end of his career, with him not getting any younger this could be the final time the World Cricket will see Rohit Sharma playing his last home season.
Sharma was appointed as the test captain of the side in 2022 after Virat Kohli decided to step down as Captain. He has played 59 International test matches. The journey for Rohit had been a little up and down until he was asked to open the innings in the longest format of the game.
India's modern-day batting sensation Virat Kohli comes second on our list. The Indian batting maestro has played 113 Test matches scoring 8848 runs. Virat has had his best time both as a batter as well as a captain in the last decade, from leading the run charts to helping India win series on overseas soil Kohli has achieved everything as a test player barring the WTC Final crown.
Kohli will be turning 36 in November and with the next WTC final (2025-27) still 3 years away Kohli could become the second Indian player to play his last home series.
Veteran All-Rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been a vital cog in the Indian setup for over a decade, Jadeja has played 72 test matches scoring 3036 runs and picking up 294 wickets. Jadeja established himself as a gun all-rounder for India lower down the order. But, Jadeja has been struggling of late with bat and ball, even battling injuries in the process.
In the test series against England earlier this year Jadeja had to miss a game after injuring his hamstring, an issue that has been bothering him for quite some time now. With Jadeja not getting any younger he could be the third Indian player to play in his last home series for India.
R Ashwin is the last man to feature in Indian players who are likely to play their last home series. Just like Jadeja, Ashwin has also been a go-to man for the Indian team whenever the situation has arisen. Till Today, Ashwin is a key bowler for India especially in all the home series. But with age catching up with him it's highly unlikely that he'll play a next home test match in 2025.
