A day before the Election Commission of India (ECI) announces the dates for the 2024 General Elections, various IPL stakeholders' actions have sparked concern that the T20 league may be relocated outside of India due to the election dates.
A few IPL teams have collected their players' passports as a precautionary move in case the second phase of the IPL is shifted out of India owing to general elections.
However, sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have stated that the league will only take place in India.

According to BCCI sources, the franchisees acquired the passports as a precautionary measure to alleviate any validity difficulties in the event of any last-minute changes.
The opening leg of the IPL will begin on March 22 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings facing Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Before the event began, there was speculation that the IPL 2024 would be transferred outside of India due to the general elections, as it has been in prior years. However, the BCCI went on to reveal the schedule for the first leg of the IPL 2024.
