Josh Hazlewood is ruled out of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy due to a calf strain. The lanky seamer was seen in discomfort on day 4 in the third test at the Gabba. Hazlewood has also been ruled out of the ongoing third test at the Gabba, meaning Australia will be going into day 5 with a bowler short.

Hazlewood bowled just 6 overs on day 3 wherein he dismissed India's star batter Virat Kohli in the third test. On day 4 Hazlewood bowled just a solitary over and was struggling to run in with the speeds down at a considerable rate, post the over Hazlewood walked off the field. It is now reported that Hazlewood had injured his calf during the training sessions ahead of day 4. Later the scans did confirm that he had a strain in his calf muscle.

Statement From Cricket Australia

"He is most likely to miss the remainder of home tests, we'll be naming a replacement for him in due course" a CA statement read.

This development is the latest one in terms of injury concerns for Josh Hazlewood who had missed the pink-ball test due to a recurrence of the side injury that ruled him out for a couple of International seasons. Between December 2021 & June 2023, Hazlewood just played four tests for Australia. While some of the tests that he missed were based on conditions, two different issues of side injury ruled him out crucial WTC final against India at Kia Oval & a crucial Ashes game against England that year.

Hazlewood went for a fitness test before the third game at the Gabba, where, he was cleared of all injuries by the CA Medical experts. As of now, Hazlewood is all set to spend some time on the sidelines due to the injury. Scott Boland who picked up 5-105 in the pink ball test at Adelaide across the two innings could be the possible replacement for the Aussies heading into the boxing day test at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground starting from December 26th.
