The chess legend, Garry Kasparov, a former champion, congratulated 17-year-old Grandmaster D Gukesh on winning the FIDE Candidates and said, "It is an Indian quake for the entire chess world with the Toronto reference". The young Indian did history justice on Monday by becoming the youngest-ever challenger to the world title after an exhilarating final round in Toronto at the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2024.

"The next thing that I'm going to achieve is me winning at the World's Championship." I am just about to try hard and do the right task. And mind my body to be in the right shape to play good chess. And, I will take it that all will be well," Gukesh responded to ANI.

Kasparov wrote on X:

Congratulations! The Indian earthquake in Toronto is the culmination of the shifting tectonic plates in the chess world as the 17-year-old Gukesh D will face the Chinese champion Ding Liren for the highest title. The "children" of Vishy Anand are on the loose,

Only Viswanathan Anand and Gukesh, two Indian players, have won the Candidates Tournament. The win occurred in 2014 for five-time world champion Anand.

"I have not thought of the preparations so far; I did not get to." " I am going to have my game on my mind in a short while. I always strive to do my best and I endeavor to achieve excellence in every field of my life. I am thrilled to start studying for the final exam. I will be there and do my best," he said to me.
