A Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) top all-rounder has ruled himself out of the next T20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled for June of this year. Sunil Narine revealed during the post-match presentation ceremony following KKR's match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Eden Gardens that he will not be returning to represent West Indies in the mega-event. Narine has confirmed his international retirement in November 2023.
When Samuel Badree asked Narine about his intentions for the T20 World Cup, he answered, "I will be watching it from my home."
Narine, who has played 122 matches for the West Indies, including six Tests, 65 ODIs, and 51 T20Is, has not appeared in international cricket since 2019. In the last five years, he has primarily practiced franchise cricket.
In terms of the game, KKR easily defeated the opposition in the last match by 8 wickets with 4.2 overs remaining in their backyard.
With victories in four of their opening five games, Kolkata Knight Riders maintained their stellar start to the campaign. With eight points, the two-time IPL champions are now ranked second.
Speaking on his team’s performance, Narine said, “We have won two out of two (matches at home). The boys are keen and everyone is enjoying it. Once you enjoy, you will have fun.”
