Veteran Bangladeshi batter Mahmudullah Riyad has announced his retirement from T20Is after the end of the series. Mahmudullah made his T20I debut against Kenya in 2007, he has the third-longest T20I career after his teammate Shakib Al Hasan & Zimbabwe's premium batter Sean Williams.
Mahmudullah has followed the footsteps of Shakib Al Hasan, who too announced his decision to retire from T20Is with immediate effect during the 2nd test at Kanpur.

Mahmudullah stated that he had already made up his mind to retire from T20Is when he arrived in India. The veteran batter had already hung up his boots from the red-ball format in 2021 to concentrate on ODI's. Mahmudullah was the leading run-scorer for Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup in 2023 in India last year with 328 runs.
"It was all decided before I arrived in India, I had a chat with the captain & coaches and hence conveyed my decision to the BCB president, I want to focus on ODI's & it's also the right time for me to move on from the T20I format". Mahmudullah quipped
Mahmudullah also stated that the loss to India in the 2016 T20 World Cup was the most frustrating loss for him & the 2018 Nidahas Trophy was the best moment of his T20I career despite Bangladesh losing the final to India in that tri-nation series.
"The most frustrating game for me was the 2016 T20 World Cup game against India, the game helped me learn a lot, the best moment for me was in the Nidahas Trophy in 2018". Mahmudullah concluded
Bangladesh is currently trailing in the ongoing T20I series by a margin of 1-0. The 2nd game of the series is set to be played at New Delhi while Hyderabad will host the 3rd T20I and final game of this tour.
