England fast bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out of all forms of cricket for the next four months, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Thursday (March 13). The veteran fast bowler is known to have suffered ligament damage on his left knee that is all set to keep him from the for a considerable amount of time.

Wood is now unlikely to be fit and ready for the five-match Test series against India at home in June-July.

The 35-year-old fast bowler experienced increased stiffness and discomfort in his knee during the Champions Trophy game against Afghanistan in Lahore on February 26. During his fourth over in the game Wood was attended by the physios. Wood bowled 8 overs in that game & was struggling to run during England's batting innings as the team's hopes for qualification for the semi-finals hanged by a thread.

The English Cricket Board in a statement also revealed that Wood had been managing his knee issues for the last year.

Wood Speaks On His Injury

“I'm disappointed to miss games for my country, but at the same time I'm also happy & confident that I'll be able to make a strong comeback at full tilt as I've now sorted my knee out.”
“I want to thank the doctors, surgeons, the board, My teammates & the fans, I am to get fit as soon as possible & contribute to English Cricket in the remainder of 2025, which is set to be a huge cricketing year for us,” said Wood in an ECB statement.

Wood has been plagued with injuries since he debuted for England in 2015. He was ruled out for the last four months of 2024 due to an elbow injury but made his comeback in the recent tour of India, featuring in four T20Is and two ODIs.

This is another major setback for the English team in their pace department as their star all-rounder Brydon Carse is also sidelined after a toe injury in the group game against Australia in the Champions Trophy. Carse is ruled out of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League(IPL).

Carse was snapped up by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 1 Crores. SRH has named South African All-Rounder Wiaan Mulder as the replacement for Brydon Carse.
