Mehidy Hasan Named Captain For West Indies ODI's

The Bangladeshi Cricket Board has appointed wily all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the leader of the pack of the 15-member squad in the absence of regular skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto. The Bangladesh team will be competing against West Indies for a 3-match ODI series at St. Kitts.

The move was evident as it was reported earlier that Najmul Hossain Shanto & Mushfiqur Rahim won't be playing against the West Indies due to their respective injuries. The BCB was concerned about Towhid Hridoy who injured his right groin while playing Football.

"Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the All-rounder has been appointed as the captain against the West Indies for the 3-match series in place of Najmul Hossain Shanto who, currently stands injured," BCB said in a statement.

Meanwhile, for Towhid Hridoy, BCB Sports Physician Monzur Hossain Chowdhury stated they would reassess the situation of Hridoy after a couple of weeks, giving him some time to rest.

"Hridoy had complained of pain in his right groin region and subsequent investigations have confirmed that he needs medical care. He has been advised to rest and we will reassess him in two weeks to determine his fitness to play," added BCB Sports Physician Monzur Hossain Chowdhury.

Wicket-keeper batter Litton Kumer Das, top-order batter Parvez Hossain Emon, spin all-rounder Afif Hossain Dhrubo, and pacers Hasan Mahmud and Tanzim Hasan Sakib have made a comeback to the ODI setup. Parvez earlier was picked in 2021 against West Indies but did not get a match during that tour.

Bangladesh will also miss the duo of Mustafizur Rahman & Zakir Hasan along with Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim & Najmul Hossain Shanto. Mustafizur had asked for a leave as he had flown back home for the birth of his first child, while, Zakir Hasan wasn't considered for selection for this trip owing to poor form.

"Fellow left-handed batter Zakir Hasan, who was a part of the team in last month's ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE, has been dropped," BCB said in the statement.
