The Indian Premier League(IPL) has seen some of the most astonishing bowling performances, displaying class-act bowling in a format dominated by the batters. On that note, let's look at the bowlers who have had the most wickets in IPL history.
Yuzvendra Chahal is the leading wicket-taker in the history of the IPL with 205 scalps in his kitty. Having made his debut in 2013 Chahal went on to represent Mumbai Indians. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals. Chahal picked the majority of his wickets while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru(139) & later at Rajasthan Royals(66). Ahead of IPL 2025 Chahal was signed by Punjab Kings for a whopping INR 18 Crores in the mega auctions. Thus, marking the beginning of a new era for the wrist spinner.
Another Wrist-Spinner follows suit, this time it is the veteran leggie from Uttar Pradesh. Piyush Chawla has been a seasoned campaigner in the Indian Premier League(IPL) since the inaugural edition in 2008. In his 17-year-old IPL career, Chawla has gone on to represent the Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings & the Mumbai Indians. Chawla enjoyed the majority of his IPL success at Kolkata Knight Riders & Punjab Kings. In IPL 2023, Chawla was the leading wicket-taker for the Mumbai Indians.
The 'Champion' from the Caribbean islands Dwayne Bravo has had a long-lasting impact on the success of the IPL & his career. Bravo made his IPL debut in 2008 playing for the Mumbai Indians. Bravo, though became the DJ Bravo when he donned the yellow of Chennai Super Kings in 2011 a season where the Super Kings defended their title & became the first side to defend their crown. Bravo had a brilliant season in 2013 where he scalped 32 wickets in the season thus also bagging the purple cap. In 2015 he again bagged the purple cap after bagging 26 wickets for the Chennai Super Kings.
The Swing King Bhuvneshwar Kumar made his IPL debut in 2011 playing for the Pune Warriors India. The franchise was soon disbanded & Bhuvneshwar joined forces with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014. Since then Bhuvneshwar went on to lead the bowling attack for the Orange Army for a decade. Bhuvneshwar created history as he became the only bowler to claim the purple cap two times in a row in 2016 & 2017.
Ace Spinner Sunil Narine made his IPL debut in 2012 & since then he's been donning the purple & gold of the Kolkata Knight Riders. Narine has played 176 matches for the Knight Riders scalping 180 wickets with his best figures being a brilliant spell of 5-19. Over the years Narine has also become one of the important all-rounders for the Kolkata-based franchise.
