In a stunning development, MS Dhoni, the legendary captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has stepped down as a captain before the IPL 2024. According to the IPL website, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was expected to take over as captain, will lead the Yellow Army instead.

Dhoni - 'The Forever Captain'

Dhoni, who has been captaining CSK since the tournament's start, opted to step down immediately before the IPL 2022. Ravindra Jadeja took up leadership in his absence. However, it did not last long following CSK's poor results under Jadeja's captaincy, prompting CSK management to ask Dhoni to reconsider his choice.

Might be Dhoni's last IPL -

There have been numerous rumors about Dhoni's involvement, who is now 42 years old. Even though he appeared fitter than ever in recent practice sessions, everyone must eventually hang up their boots. Now, rumor has revived that this could be Dhoni's final year in the IPL.

Ruturaj rose to fame in short span -

Ruturaj made his IPL debut in 2020 and has since only played for one franchise: Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Over the years, he has emerged as a figure of extreme consistency at the top, scoring 1797 runs in 52 matches at an average of 39.07 and a strike rate of 135.52. His finest IPL season was in 2021 when he scored 635 runs in 16 games at an impressive average of 45.35.

Gaikwad will play his maiden match as CSK captain against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2024 opener at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium.
