In game 3 of the Men's T20 World Cup, fans witnessed the first super over in the tournament in just the third game.
First Things First Namibia won the toss on a tough deck at Barbados and asked Oman to bat first, Oman just managed to breach the 100-run mark. eventually folding on for 109 in 19.4 overs. Rubel Trumpelmann started the game in a dream fashion as he trapped the two Omani batters on consecutive balls in the first over.
David Wiese further gave serious jolts to the rest of the batting lineup which reduced the chances of Oman finishing on a decent total. Trumpelmann returned in the attack to claim two more wickets to reduce Oman to 101/9 in 19 overs.
Namibia too started on a rough not losing Van Lingen in the first over itself.
they used a timid approach to handle things, scoring only 32 runs in the powerplay. The Namibian ship was cruising to victory in a slowish manner. But things started to heat a bit with the Omani bowlers bowling some tight lengths and tight fielding. 5 runs were needed in the last over to defend Oman Seamer Mehran Khan got two wickets in the last over to enforce a tie.
Captain Gerhard Erasmus and David Wiese smacked 21 runs in the Super over off Bilal Khan. Wiese was given the ball while bowling in the super over, Wiese got Feroze Khushi out on his third delivery of the over. Wiese in total conceded just 10 runs, handing Namibia a 10-run Win.
This was just the fourth super over in T20 World Cup history and third in the tournament.
The first tie took place in South Africa in the inaugural edition when India played Pakistan, a bowl-out was used to decide the winner of that game, The super over was first played in the 2012 edition in Sri Lanka, where the Sri Lankans pipped the New Zealand side in Kandy. There was another super played in the very same edition in 2012 the Kiwis were a part of it once again. This time the eventual champions of that edition West Indies beat them in the Super Over.
