According to Tripura Cricket Association joint president Jayanta Dey, former India captain Sourav Ganguly has requested veteran stumper Wriddhiman Saha to play "one last match" for his native state of Bengal before he announces his retirement. The 39-year-old first saw Ganguly at this location after severing ties with certain Cricket Association of Bengal leaders in 2022 and moving to Tripura.
"Ganguly desires that Saha play one last game for Bengal before retiring. This is what Saha told me. However, Dey informed PTI that he has not yet requested a NOC (no objection certificate) from Tripura.
"We have recently given NOC to Sudip Chatterjee who is set for a Bengal return, but Saha has not asked for it as of now," he stated.
He had disclosed that he had discussed his future and the idea that he should "think about retirement" with head coach Rahul Dravid in private meetings held in the dressing room. In addition, he stated that Ganguly had promised him a "spot" in the squad.
Saha even left the WhatsApp group for the Bengal team and joined Tripura. Saha resisted attempts by former CAB president Avishek Dalmiya to get him to rejoin the Bengal team.
