Indian Archery Team Makes Strong Start: Men's Recurve in World Cup Final Rai

Three Indian athletes of Tarundeep Rai, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Pravin Jadhav clinched a medal by qualifying for the men’s recurve final round of the archery world cup event 1 which was held in Shanghai on Thursday.

India will compete in the gold medal match on Sunday against Lee Woo Seok, Kim Je Deok, and world-ranked archer Kim Woojin of the Korean team that won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

After South Korea, the defending world and Olympic champions, won five consecutive sets (54-54, 55-55, 56-55), the Japanese team, seeded second, advanced to face the top-seeded and reigning champions, Korea, in the championship match.

The No. 1 representatives of Korea took China Taipei's Tan Chih-Chun, Lin Zih-Siang, and Tai Yu-Hsuan to the fourth set with final scores of 6-0 (57-50, 58-56, 58-54).

Previously, after getting a first-round bye in the tour opener, the second seeded Indians bounced back from losing the first set to beat Indonesia 5-3 (55-56, 54-54, 55-51, 55-53) in their tough kick-off match.

They were at their best against the No.7 seeds, again, as they began by dropping just one point (59 goals out of 60) before France raced to a 5-1 (59-54, 56-55, 55-55) win and so, to the semifinal.

Ankita Bhakat and Bhajan Kaur:

The Indian women’s team of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Bhajan Kaur which got 6th place in the qualifiers, too had a below- par showing and lost a 3-1 lead in their opening match to lose to Mexico.
