Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) existing strong social media presence has been enhanced by a trophy won on the field. The team set a new record for the fastest 1 million likes on an Instagram account in India.
Following their 8-wicket victory over the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium to secure the WPL 2024 trophy, RCB shared an Instagram photo that, in just 9 minutes, amassed 1 million likes.
This has surpassed the record set by one of Virat Kohli's postings, which reached one million Instagram likes in ten minutes, to becoming the fastest post by an Indian account to reach that milestone.
Five of the seven fastest Instagram posts to reach one million likes are by Virat Kohli, while one is by Big Boss winner Elvish Yadav. However, the post from RCB celebrating winning the WPL title is currently at the top. This highlighted the passionate support for the Royal Challengers of Bangalore (RCB) team as well as the happiness felt by supporters both domestically and internationally at the team's ultimate trophy drought ending.
After finishing second-last in the last league of the WPL, Smriti Mandhana stated that she and her team had learned a lot from the experience. To get to the final, RCB overcame the Delhi Capitals, headed by Meg Lanning, who had won the league this season, as well as the defending champion Mumbai Indians, who were captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, in two straight games and got a jump from 3rd position to 1st position.
Last year taught us a lot of things,” Mandhana said. “We spoke of what went wrong, what went right, both as player and captain. The management backed my ideas when I went to them after the tournament. They said this is your team, build it the way you want to. It’s been amazing. They’ve been through a lot as well, for them to have this trophy is also really exciting."
Sophie Molineux bagged the Player of the Match award for her game-turning three-wicket over.
