Indian keeper-batter Rishabh Pant had a tough day behind the stumps, things became worse when Ravindra Jadeja's delivery in the 37th over of the innings was kept low and hit Pant on the kneecap of the right knee. It's the same knee where he recently got his surgery done.
Pant was seen in immense pain, so much so that he had to be carried off the field by two support staff members. Reserve keeper-batter Dhruv Jurel did the keeping duties for the rest of the day. Pant had a traumatizing accident in December 2022. Pant got his surgeries done and made a roaring comeback to cricket in the IPL where he scored 446 runs in 14 games & also played a pivotal role in India's successful campaign at the T20 World Cup.
The impact on the same knee is a major setback for the young keeper batter from Delhi.
"Yeah, unfortunately, the ball hit his kneecap in the right knee, the very same knee he was operated on, he's got a bit of swelling on that knee", Rohit Stated
"It looks Tender at this point, so it's just a precautionary measure, as you got operated on that particular leg, that was the reason he went to the dressing room, hopefully, he'll be fine to continue". Rohit Concluded
India went into the Test match with an injury to another frontline player in Shuman Gill who was ruled out due to a stiffness in the neck. Pant's injury now, if it keeps him out, compounds India's woes after they were bowled out for 46 - their lowest Test total in India.
