Known for its high-scoring matches and impressive batting performances, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is a dominant force in Twenty20 cricket. But teams have been swept out for embarrassingly low totals on a few occasions, even in this batsman's paradise. The following five teams have the lowest team scores in IPL history:
RCB holds the annoying record of being the side with the lowest score in IPL history. Their 2017 season wasn't as successful as they had hoped, as KKR's unstoppable speedster Woakes and Coulter-Nile caused RCB's lineup to collapse. KKR took all ten wickets in less than five overs, helping them reach their modest goal of 130.
This 2009 match served as a reality check for the Rajasthan Royals. Their hitting lineup was outmatched against the Royals, as not a single player scored more than ten runs. The Royals' precarious batting line was crushed by RCB's bowlers, led by Anil Kumble, who claimed five vital wickets, and they were reduced to a pitiful 58 runs.
It's surprising to see RCB at the top of the list as the losers. After winning their most recent match against RR last year, they are now the opposition after thrashing RR for only 59 runs in pursuit of a 172-run goal. They controlled the RCB bowlers' performance in this exhibition.
The Delhi Capitals, the former idle IPL Delhi side, are presently occupying the same spot. Our team's batting lineup simply couldn't compete with the MI bowlers during an IPL 2017 matchup against the Mumbai Indians, as we were finally bowled out for just 66 runs.
Due to their two top-five finishes, the Delhi Daredevils (also known as the Delhi Capitals) are the darlings of misfortune and eccentricity. Even with the Bat, they have had difficulty in 2017. As a result, their efforts against Kings XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings) were limited to just 67 runs.
The fact that these low numbers demonstrate the erratic characteristic of cricket even in the hub stage of the IPL. While the bowling teams will surely want to expunge these memories now, these still remind us that the best batting lineups can have a tough day as well.
