The Times of India reported that Shreyas Iyer, captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, might have to miss the starting games of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Series of injuries among players -

According to the report, the batter's previous back injury has returned after he scored 95 runs for Mumbai against Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy final. Iyer had surgery in 2023 for the same issue, and the new development may prevent him from playing in the opening few IPL 2024 matches.

It is not looking good. It is the same back injury which has got aggravated. It is unlikely he will take the field on Day 5 of the Ranji Trophy final. He is in danger of missing the initial matches of the IPL.

Iyer views the IPL as a vital competition following his exclusion from the BCCI's central contract list. The first match of the league is scheduled for March 22 in Kolkata between KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

During his 95-run innings, Iyer experienced back stiffness and required two examinations from the Mumbai team physiotherapist. Additionally, he did not play for Mumbai on Wednesday, and according to the source, there is very little chance that he will play again in the Ranji Trophy final.

While IND vs ENG Test Series, Iyer complained about hi sore back and withdrew from the series. However, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) said that he has no new injury concerns.

During the recently-held Test series against England at home, he had told the Indian team management about this injury troubling him again.
