At the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, the Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill was fined ₹12 lakh after their team was deemed to have maintained a slower over during their IPL 2024 encounter against the Chennai Super Kings. In the 17th iteration of the competition, this was a side's first offense relating to overrate.

After Hardik Pandya joined the Mumbai Indians in search of another captain's job, Gill assumed leadership of the squad and won his first game on Sunday. Gill's GT finished second on Tuesday, despite the rookie opening batter's impressive start when GT defeated MI in their tournament opener a few nights ago.
