Sharpening her Racquet: Sindhu Eyes Malaysia Masters Win for Olympic Push

Neha . May 21, 2024

Sindhu was a World Champion in 2019 and she missed the Uber Cup and Thailand Open tournaments this year but she is back now to play at the BWF World Tour Super 500 event and she will try to reach deep in the Women’s Singles category.

After sustaining a knee injury in October of last year, the 28-year-old Hyderabadi has had difficulty getting back in touch.

Though her recovery has been difficult thus far due to her tight losses, Sindhu has earned silver and bronze medals in the Olympics. Sindhu has only been in two quarterfinals out of six competitive.

Her last title came out in 2022 in Singapore Open but she lost in the finals of the Spanish in 2022.

When Sindhu plays Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour this week in her opening match, she will be looking to start strong. During her journey to the gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Sindhu also had a stress fracture on her left ankle.

Due to the absence of elite players like An Se Young, Chen Yu Fei, Akane Yamaguchi, and Carolina Marin this week, Sindhu will be eager to put her preparation to the test against the younger players who have been bothering her lately.

Chaliha has faced some formidable opponents, including Aya Ohori and Han Yue, whom she recently forced to three games.

Kiran George is the only player from India competing in the men's singles division. He will face Takuma Obayashi of Japan in the first round.

In the men's doubles, Krishna Prasad Garaga and Sai Pratheek K will get the opportunity to demonstrate their skill since the reigning Thailand Open winners Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have chosen to withdraw.

India's hopes will be carried in mixed doubles by the husband-wife team of B Sumeeth Reddy and N Sikki Reddy, as well as by Sathish Kumar Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath.
