After overcoming top seed Han Yue of China in a close match on Friday to go to the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Masters, double Olympic medalist Sindhu made a huge step towards winning a championship.

Global No. 15 In a 55-minute quarterfinal match, Sindhu overcame a mid-game dip to defeat Han, ranked sixth, 21-13 14-21 21-12, exacting revenge for the setback she suffered against the Chinese in their last meeting at the Asia badminton Championships in Ningbo last month.

Next up for the former world champion Sindhu is a matchup with either Putri Kusuma Wardani from Indonesia or Busanan Ongbamrungphan from Thailand in the final stage.

Other results: China's sixth-seeded Zhang Yi Man defeated Ashmita Chaliha 10-21, 15-21, to halt Chaliha's impressive run.

The 55-minute match saw Sindhu, who last won the Singapore Open in 2022, play admirably. In the opening game, she pulled away from 3-3 to take an 11-5 lead into the break.

The Chinese gradually got up to 13–16, but Sindhu won the first game by scoring the final five points in a row.

After switching sides, Han, hurt by the reversal, roared to a 5-0 lead. Even while Sindhu battled, she remained in charge of the proceedings. Han easily won the match and advanced it to the final round despite the Indian player mounting a slight comeback. Han had gone out to a commanding 15-2 lead.
