On Saturday, Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of India, responded to the supporters jeering Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya by stating that it is not the player's fault if he took over for the team's beloved Rohit Sharma. Ever since the Mumbai Indians revealed that Pandya will skipper the five-time champions, the supporters have been furious with Pandya. In his first match back as captain of MI, the India all-rounder was jeered at the home venue of his former team, the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. Pandya repeated the trend when he traveled to Hyderabad to play the Sunrisers Hyderabad, and to the surprise of many, he was jeered when the Mumbai Indians played their first home game of the season.
“I don’t think they should boo Hardik Pandya. It’s not correct.” Ganguly said this to the media here on Saturday during the Delhi Capitals' practice at Wankhede Stadium.
“It’s not correct. The franchisee has appointed him as captain. That’s what happens in sport. Whether you captain India or you captain a state or whether you captain your franchise, you are appointed as captain. It’s not correct. The franchisee has appointed him as captain.
